Myth #1: Buy & Hold Is Safe

This is an investment strategy based on the belief that the stock market always goes up in the long run. The problem with this strategy is that the long run can be a very long time. For example, the Dow Jones Industrial Average did not return to its 1929 peak until 1954… A FULL 25 YEARS LATER!

During that time it dropped precipitously incurring unacceptable risk which no one would sit through. To make matters worse, few money managers can duplicate the performance of the general market. The late 90's dot.com-inspired boom and bust is another example of why buy and hold is not safe. For every strategy, whether an investor or trader, you must have an exit strategy that limits risk, otherwise you are just buying, holding, and hoping (or praying).

That's right. I believe the popular Buy And Hold “strategy” of which so many subscribe and so many books have been written about is complete nonsense.

Myth #2: Trading Is Easy

OK, sure; the physical act of trading is easy, but making money consistently is not easy – otherwise everyone would be rich! It's too bad so many well-intentioned people are losing money because someone told them that “trading is easy”... THEY WERE NEVER GIVEN THE TOOLS TO MAKE TRADING EASY!

Why? Because most people follow the crowd and look for the easy way out.

The Reality Is... Trading doesn't need to be difficult, but it requires diligence on the part of the trader to follow a good trading method, use good money management principles, and trade with discipline, none of which are easy but all which are being done by successful traders.

Most of the so-called “experts” that tell you trading is easy never tell you about money management and discipline, let alone a winning trading method.

Myth #3: The Holy Grail Of Trading Exists

I believe this is what prevents most traders from becoming winners. They go from method to method, chasing after the next sure thing only to be disappointed over and over again.

Amateurs think that they should be able to win on every trade, or practically every trade. Amateurs believe it is possible to achieve a near straight line positive equity curve with no significant drawdowns. Amateurs usually abandon their latest trading method after a few losing trades in a row concluding that the method just doesn't work.

Well, it should be clear by now that the reason most amateurs remain amateurs or give up trading all together is that they never stop believing and pursuing the Holy Grail.

The Reality Is... The Holy Grail of Trading DOES NOT exist. Of course, you can waste the best years of your life trying to find it if you don't believe me.

Myth #4: Selling Short Is Risky

This is one of the worst things you could think, and if you do, I believe it's preventing you from not only making money, but it also prevents you from minimizing risk.

This myth stems from the fact that there is no limit to how high a stock can trade while that same stock can only trade down to zero. So, a short position could suffer unlimited losses while long position losses are limited on the downside.

Done properly, selling short works just as well as buying long.

Market analysts think they can predict the future. Give me a break! I believe you'd receive equally valuable market forecasts from… A MONKEY PICKING STOCKS BY THROWING DARTS!

Analysts are usually encouraging you to buy or hold, seldom do they tell you to sell. That is a problem. I believe the prevailing view of the “experts” is usually wrong.

The Reality Is... The majority view for the coming year stock market performance by the top name analysts in the country (who you can see on TV every day) is almost never correct. That is because the market is simply un-forecastable.

Evaluate A Good Trading Method

While the Holy Grail is thankfully not required to succeed in the markets, a Winning Methodology , risk management , and discipline are absolutely required. Without them, you will lose . Professional traders understand this. They do not get lost in endless analysis of the myriad of indicators, patterns, and methods. They find or develop a winning methodology and trade it over and over again, adhering to strict risk management principles.

What is a winning methodology? Well, it's a set of rules that tells you precisely how to enter the market, exit the market, and how much to allocate to each trade so that you end up with a Profit Factor greater than 1.00. Whoa! What's a Profit Factor?

Stay with me because I'm going to reveal what 95% of traders just don't take the time to understand. This concept is so simple yet most people make trades that damage their portfolio all day long because they trade methods with abysmal profit factors. True professional traders understand this concept, and after you read the following paragraphs, you'll already be in the 5% minority of traders that understand how to find a good trading method.

Let's look at the formula of the Profit Factor:

From the above formula, if the average winning trade equaled the average losing trade and the method wins 50% of the time, the Profit Factor would be 1.00 (see Table 1, Method A). It should be self-evident that no money could be made with this method.

The average winning trade must be greater than the average losing trade, the % winners must be greater than the % losers, or both must occur to make money.

A method that generates 50% winners and an average winning trade 1.5 times the average losing trade (including commissions and slippage) would have a profit factor of 1.5 (Table 1, Method B). Or better yet, a method that generates 66% winners and an average winning trade 1.5 times the average losing trade would have a Profit Factor of 3.0 (Table 1, Method C).

Any trader that can consistently achieve a Profit Factor of 1.5 or greater will enjoy great success. A trader that can operate at a Profit Factor of 3.0 could become very wealthy.

Does the above information make sense? If not, go back and read that paragraph again because as soon as you understand it you will be part of the 5% of traders that know how to find a good trading method.

Q: Is Instant Profits a complicated method to apply?

Instant Profits is a deceptively simple trading method. In my 30+ years of trading, I've found that the simpler a method is, the easier it is to trade, and more importantly, the more likely you are to actually trade it consistently. If you're looking for an overly complex method, my course is NOT for you! Honestly, a few traders don't like my course because they prefer complicated methods. I still don't understand why, because complicated methods are just too difficult to trade on a consistent basis.

I teach you how to take simple, common indicators you've seen before and combine them in a unique and powerful way. That said, you should not expect to spend an hour with Instant Profits and start trading. If you're really serious about learning how to trade like a pro, you're going to need to set aside some time to study. If you can't commit to this, you might not be ready to trade.

Q: Do I need charting software to trade Instant Profits?

You do need charting software to trade Instant Profits (or any other trading method for that matter). If you're a serious trader, you need to have at least one good charting software application. Fortunately, there are a few low-cost solutions available. For stock trading, I recommend using Worden's TeleChart2005. The software is free, and the data feed is available for a nominal monthly fee.

Q: What should I do if I have questions or problems with Instant Profits?

If you have any questions or concerns while you're learning or trading with Instant Profits, just send an e-mail to our support desk. I will personally answer your trading questions. Every now and then, I'll get an e-mail from a student, telling me that Instant Profits isn't working for them. In almost every case, the student was rushing to trade, forgot some key aspect of the method, or didn't set the indicators properly. Remember, I want you to ask for help if you have any questions.
